Norwegian Internet browser developer Opera Software ASA (OSE:OPERA) announced on Wednesday (27 August) that it has partnered with MTN, a telecomms company in Uganda, to bring the mobile web to the company's nearly 3m subscribers.

Opera said that, by expanding into Africa, it is strengthening its strategy to make the web available to more people, on any device, from anywhere in the world.

Opera Mini is built on Opera's browser technology and is reportedly the world's most popular mobile web browser. According to the company's latest 'State of the Mobile Web' report, 15.8m people actively used Opera Mini in July 2008, with 233 pages browsed on average.

The partnership with Opera will enable MTN to provide an easier and more pleasurable mobile web browsing experience to its customers, in this way re-affirming the company's commitment to being a total telecomms solutions provider in Uganda, MTN said.

No financial details were disclosed.
