9 March 2010 - Finnish drug developer Biotie Therapies Oyj (HEL: BTH1V) said today the discovery phase of its research collaboration and license agreement with US pharma giant Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) regarding PDE10 inhibitors for schizophrenia will end in June 2010.
To date, the programme has advanced one compound into preclinical development.
Under the agreement, Pfizer has been funding Biotie's research activities on the PDE10 (phosphodiesterase 10) inhibitor programme since its start in late 2006 and has the sole authority to develop discovered compounds.
The parties have demonstrated that inhibitors of PDE10, a novel CNS drug, are active in experimental models relevant for schizophrenia. Trail data was presented at the American Chemical Society Fall National Meeting in Washington, USA, and at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting in Chicago, both held in 2009.
